Who are we?

The Origin Story

On October 1, 2024, our President, Kyle Boyd, heard about the catastrophic flooding that had struck western North Carolina. He felt an unshakable conviction that he had to do something to help those in need. Without hesitation, Kyle began gathering donations—everything from baby diapers to non-perishable food—and within days, had collected approximately 4,000 pounds of supplies.

On the morning of October 4, he left Madison, Mississippi, hauling an open-top trailer full of relief goods, headed for Statesville Regional Airport. There, local volunteers were loading trucks and aircraft to send aid up into the flood-ravaged mountain communities.

As he drove toward western North Carolina, the skies opened up with torrential rain. Kyle remembers praying aloud, “Lord, please don’t let any of these supplies get ruined.” For nearly an hour and a half, he pushed through the storm with no tarp covering the trailer. When he finally stopped for fuel, he checked the load—and to his amazement, not a single drop had touched the supplies. “What a miracle,” he said.

Kyle spent the next 72 hours serving alongside the men and women at Statesville Regional Airport, who would become known as United Carolinas Calvary (UCC). They sent him into some of the hardest-hit communities—Burnsville, Spruce Pine, Asheville, and Boone—delivering aid directly to those who needed it most.

Though he had always called himself a Christian, it was there, in the heart of crisis, that Kyle first felt what it meant to truly serve others.

That weekend changed everything.

On the drive home, his thoughts turned to fear and uncertainty—wondering how he would pay his bills and whether he would ever be rewarded for what he had done. That’s when he heard it: the undeniable voice of God.

“You will not be rewarded,” the voice said. “But you will do this from this day forward. When people ask you what your organization is called, you will tell them, ‘Faith in Disaster.’”

The voice was so powerful, so overwhelming, that the music in his truck became inaudible. Kyle even turned to the backseat to check if his dog, Livvy, had heard it too. Then it hit him: he had just received his life’s calling.

Through tears, he said, “Yes, Lord.”

In two short sentences, God gave Kyle the direction that would define his purpose—from that moment on.
